Project Overview
With the new Smart Home product line launching in early Oct 2022, the product category landing page template was needing to be updated to help establish a new shopping experience for current and future product releases. Our original strategy, based on research was to focus on displaying brief intro-copy and then going right into product categories, sub-categories and products within those categories. Additional category feature and education content would be placed after the products. With this project, an area of focus was to improve the mobile experience and have that lead design improvements across site, as previous development on Roku.com lacked much needed mobile device support.
Role and Responsibilities
For this project I worked as the Senior Lead designer where I primarily created the new designs, and working closely with the UX research team for testing and creating end-to-end prototypes. Throughout the project I had to meet with stakeholders, hold reviews for UX and Marketing VP's, and consult with development teams. This was all to ensure that my designs would make it through all necessary design review processes and the project scope would be changed.
Spec and Development
Once final design were completed, I started working on creating a "spec" review document to hand of to the different development teams to help align with current design systems and also our backend CMS. Due to some limiting capabilities of Roku's current CMS not all of the designs were able to be created for the given scheduled release. I was able to update the final designs to best align with our systems, and without changing the overall user experience.
