Project Overview
In addition to the Roku Smart Home product suite, a custom application was developed to managed all product devices a user could have and interact with in their home. The new UI was partly a reskin/ refresh effort from the existing Wyze brand and opposite new development for Roku products. What we learn early on was the limited amount or missing UX that would be needed to be built for the application to be beneficial to our users.
Role and Responsibilities
My role for this project was to rebuild/refresh existing UI from the Wyze application where applicable and then develop and design any and all new experiences where missing. This would encompass but not limited to: setup, Login, device activation, account settings, subscriptions, events and scheduling, UI monitoring, and camera UI. I worked closely with our UI design teams and Design System teams for new asset creation and new iconography. I would work also with the UX research team for user testing and surveying.
Camera Controls and Custom UI
As the team develop the backend systems for each of the cameras, the frontend UI for each of the cameras needed to be design for each of their unique capabilities. Each camera in the suite could preform different actions than one another. This created the issue of several different control systems that would look largely different from one another and created confusion with our users. I needed to design a evergreen system that would similar and behaved in the same manner each of the other systems. After working very closely with the Dev team, we were able to solution a more uniformed look to the UI.
